So this week has been a bit of a nightmare. I have started cleaning up all of the copper, but my estimations on how long it was going to take was far too short. However it is on route to be done by Tuesday.
The amount of gunk that has been deposited on the copper over it’s 70 year periods is just crazy, if it was a case of just melting it down then it wouldn’t be an issue, but as there are a lot of shapes in the water tank that I would like to try to keep, as it shows the historical nature of it.
The inner heating coil, I have had to set up a large pickling tank, so using a 35 litre plastic storage box, which is slightly too small for the coil, with a 5% pickling solution, I have had to try to keep that warm. Solutions put it in my bath and fill the bath with warm water. See picture.
